Jira 9 is here, and Custom Charts works with it

Oct 24

There are several compelling reasons to update to Jira Data Center's most recent release.

Naturally, the first concern for everyone whenever a new version is released is whether their current programs will work with it or not. Thankfully, Jira 9 supports the installation of Custom Charts.

Let's explore some additional major advantages of Jira 9 now.

Jira automation is now built into Jira Software Data Center

The Jira Software Data Center now supports automation for Jira. Using a straightforward rule builder, this effective program enables teams to automate workflows and actions, eliminating manual and repetitive tasks.

There are three components to the automation rules you can create:

  1. Trigger: Automation starts when a specific event occurs, such as the creation of an issue.
  2. Conditions: Conditions let you set applicable rules, allowing you to narrow down its scope. For instance, your rule might only apply to bugs or high-priority issues.
  3. Actions: This refers to a task that automatically happens after specific triggers and conditions are met. Examples of actions include sending notifications or creating a sub-task.

One good example of automation is when an issue is created in Jira (trigger) and its priority is set to Highest (condition), notifications will be sent to team members (action) so they could take further action.

Quicker Jira dashboard loading time

Given how much we love the Jira dashboard, we at Old Street are especially thrilled that with the latest update, Jira dashboards will now have a faster loading time. With Jira 9, lazy loading has been added by Atlassian to a number of inline devices. Only the gadgets you're viewing in the viewport will load by default rather than all of them. Dashboards will load significantly more quickly as a result.

Old Street Solutions already offers lazy loading for Custom Charts. For user experience, this means that if you have a dashboard that uses both Custom Charts and native Jora 9 gadgets, your entire dashboard will load much quicker than before.

Issue transitions and statuses available in the same menu

Prior to Jira 9, the transitions that could be made from the issue's current status were represented by buttons on the issue, and the remaining options were found in the Workflow dropdown menu. The issue details section showed the current status.

With the introduction of Jira 9, transitions and statuses are combined into a single drop-down menu called the Issue Status menu. The current status has now been changed into a menu label and the dropdown shows the transitions in your workflow. The View workflow option is still available but you can now see it at the bottom of the dropdown.
